The getting-ready part of your wedding day has its own energy. Someone’s fixing an earring, your favorite people are in the room, and it’s starting to feel real.

A thoughtful timeline helps make space for those moments. And one of the best places to start is with your hair and makeup schedule.

Work backward from your first commitment

Your ceremony time isn’t necessarily the time you need to be ready. You may be getting dressed, traveling, taking portraits, or joining a family celebration before then.

Talk with your photographer, planner, and beauty team about the first thing on your schedule that requires you to be ready. Then work backward, allowing time for dressing, accessories, touch-ups, travel, and a little breathing room.

There’s no single finish time that works for every wedding. Your outfit, location, photo plans, and the number of people getting services all matter.

Make sure the right people are ready

If someone is helping you get dressed or joining you for early photos, let your beauty team know when that person needs to be finished. Share individual appointment times and any preparation instructions with everyone receiving a service.

And if you want photos of hair or makeup in progress, tell your photographer. Those images can be part of the story too, but they need to fit within your coverage and the morning’s schedule.

Leave room for real life

Wedding mornings don’t always go exactly to plan. A little buffer can help if a service takes longer than expected or someone needs an extra minute.

If things do run late, let your photographer and coordinator know as soon as possible. Together, you can look at what comes next and decide what matters most. That might mean fewer group combinations, portraits closer to where you’re getting ready, or moving some photos later if the rest of the day allows.

The goal is to have a plan that gives you space to be present, enjoy your people, and take in the day as it unfolds.
